A little faith may make a big impact at Palos Verdes High School, as members of the Christian club New Life take matters into their own hands.
Club member Nathan Wendorff organized an event to bring people together to pray for the well-being of the school and its students. This widely practiced ritual, with the intent of calling on a higher power to benefit the school and students, will be carried out every day during lunch for 40 days throughout January and February.
Wendorff describes this event as an attempt to “[Invite] God into our school and ask for change.” It calls for the collaboration of Christian students to take time out of their day during lunch to hope for constructive improvements at the school.
“A lot of [what we have been praying for] has been about drug addictions, drinking, and everyday problem that high school kids deal with,” said senior Annelise Nystrom, New Life’s President.
In addition, members also hope to evoke a sense of positive morale through the students involved.

PV High physics teacher James Warren walked in to his physics AP class last Thursday about half an hour late--only to receive surprised applause after being absent for close to two weeks.
Eleven days earlier, a Sunday at approximately 2:15 p.m., Warren was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Hawthorne Boulevard near the Peninsula Center. He was taken to the emergency room, where doctors kept him in the hospital overnight and eventually found that he had four broken ribs and had suffered a concussion. The force of the car had cracked the back of his helmet.
“I am so glad I wore [my helmet],” Warren said of the protective headgear that may have saved his life.
He declined to comment on the actual accident for legal reasons.

Did 2012 come early? Well it sure felt like it during finals week, and the rain doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon. Considering we just received the most rain ever in our recent memories, there must have been something crazy that happened. Well there was a lot that happened.
Besides the wind-tunnel touching down in Huntington Beach and the multiple flood and mud slide warnings, there were some major problems at the school. There was severe soppage, if not near-flooding, almost every day during finals week.
“The 200-300 block had water so high that if we hadn’t acted immediately it would have flooded the classrooms. That would’ve cost a lot of money to fix...more than was spent trying to unclog all the drains in the school,” explained the maintenance staff.
